Practices include the use of herbs, dietary changes, movement therapies, massage, moxibustion and acupuncture.
While Western medicine is based on theories regarding the function anatomy and physiology, Chinese medicine is based on at least five main theories regarding the human body and its vital energy of nature, the universe, and a superior being. Its practices have roots that are thousands of years.
One aspect of Chinese medicine, acupuncture is the procedure of inserting and manipulating fine needles into points of the body to treat and care for medical problems, including pain. Acupuncture points, the sites of placement of stimulus, are located along the meridians of the body through which our theorized energy flows of life. Modern acupuncture texts Meridian presented as objective concepts. While there is no physical evidence to support their existence, believe that the only test of gravity is the fact that bodies attract each in predictable ways (for example, the objects remain on the ground). Similarly, people respond to stimuli along the acupuncture meridians in predictable ways. Furthermore, acupuncture does not cause unwanted side effects like most drugs regularly prescribed.
The first written record of acupuncture is recognized in the second century BC. Several variants of acupuncture are practiced throughout the world. Acupuncture has been difficult to study Western medical researchers because of the invasive nature of the practice (which have fine needles). Guest scholars are often influenced by the origin of the researchers. However, there is general agreement that acupuncture is safe when administered from well-trained practitioners using sterile needles, and further investigations are ongoing. Alternative therapeutic approaches are available to the public in general through inexperienced and Electroacupuncture and acupressure. These are applied at the same points along the meridians itself, without the risks of using the needle from the novice in If I treat my low Back Pain.
A unique source of information on acupuncture Acupuncture is a manual, published by the Journal of Chinese Medicine Publications. Following the research of many years, Peter Deadman, editor-in-chief of The Journal of Chinese Medicine, and colleagues have created the primary reference for the study and application practice of acupuncture points and meridians. With the subtle use of color to illustrate the acupuncture points and anatomical features in about five hundred illustrations, is a very comprehensive, interesting and user-friendly tool for beginners and professionals. The index identifies each part of the body reached by each meridian, and there are separate indexes for readers to address health problems by categorizing Chinese medicine and Western medicine approaches symptom.
